Per ESPN, the Big 12 has accused the sports news monster of beinf actively involved with the Longhorns’ and Sooners’ exodus.
But the claims don’t stop with OU and UT. Conference commissioner Bob Bowlsby addressed the claims:
“I have absolute certainty they (ESPN) have been involved in manipulating other conferences to go after our members. ESPN is incentivizing other conferences.”
Bowlsby sent a cease-and-desist letter to ESPN outlining what conference believes the network did.
“[ESPN needs to stop] all actions that may harm the conference and its members, and that it not communicate with the Big 12.”
It also said that ESPN should stop all contact with other conferences in regards to conference realignment.
Oklahoma and Texas recently announced to the Big 12 that they intend on leaving the conference after the TV rights contract expires in 2025. The schools also sent a request to join the SEC.
ESPN has media rights with every Power 5 conference, except the Big 12.
ESPN responded, saying that none of what they were accused of is true. This is a fluid situation, so stay with NFL Sapient as more news. Ones out.
