Summer Scouting Notes: C Cole Bentley, Louisville

Considering his size, I would expect him to test well. Looks very mobile and athletic on the field. Has good speed for the position. Wasn’t often asked to pull but flashes the ability to move into position quickly… Shows good lateral quickness to move to the edge… Bentley’s snap set is excellent. Prepares well for the play and is almost instantly in his assignment. Very impressive… Despite his larger frame, he doesn’t get the push that you would expect to see. Lacks some lower body strength to establish his position. Not a powerful guy. Will struggle to handle stronger players.
Anchor is solid, but Bentley is going to give up some ground… Has some decent recovery, but once he gives up his plant he will not regain it… Hand placement is good. Bentley commands his defenders well… Does not show great bend as a pass blocker, is very stiff, and lacks mobility… Bentley lacks some downhill push ability and is a much better pass protector than he is a run mauler… Doesn’t try to engage the defender, rather he tries to run through them. As a result, he misses a lot of run blocks that could break big plays. Uses the defender’s momentum to guide him away from the quarterback. Very savvy pass protector.
