Overview: Tyarise Stevenson is a 1-tech nose tackle from Tulsa who should exit his collegiate career with well over 50 game appearances. He played primarily 0-tech but has a good bit of upside as a 1-tech because of his size and explosive ability. Stevenson’s nickname is “Big Cat,” and was given the name as a youngster because of his likened appearance to pro wrestler Ernie “The Big Cat” Ladd.

Summer Scouting Notes: NT Tyarise Stevenson, Tulsa

Speed is going to be an issue for Stevenson. He’s big and it really slows him down. Could be a little bit faster laterally, but is suitable… A little bit concerned about his upper body. Get’s pushed around a little too easily… Stevenson has some power in his legs. Really uses them well, looks like he can squat a lot… Strong brute but won’t bully his way into the backfield… Slightly slow with his first step, but accelerates after that quickly. Pretty damn explosive thanks to his lower body strength… He’s tough to contain one-on-one, but it’s doable. Doesn’t attract as many double teams as you’d like to see… Not a guy you are going to see win many double teams. Doesn’t exert the energy when attracts that assignment… Excellent swim and rip move. Really has some ability with his handwork currently. Not as consistent with his handwork as you’d like to see… Has the tools to be a good gap defender, but wasn’t assigned as a 1-tech often in the Tulsa scheme. Hard to really assess how good he can be as a gap defender… Doesn’t take great angles at the ball carrier. Struggles to work off of blocks and get to the ball carrier. Looks like there are some potential length issues with his frame… Doesn’t have a great natural feel for the game. That’s slightly concerning… Stevenson has consistently not produced sacks in the American Conference… Stevenson did not participate in the 2021 Spring Game, recovering from an injury.
