Summer Scouting Notes: Z-WR David Bell, Purdue

Bell struggles to accelerate, but once he’s moving at full speed, he has long strides that allow him to move gracefully at a good speed. Would estimate he runs a 4.5 forty… Average stop and go ability. Shows good body control to keep defenders from tracking him down… Acceleration is average… Bell isn’t all that explosive of an athlete… Feet aren’t as quick as you’d like to see. Doesn’t sell his fakes well enough… Bell was asked to play as both an X and a Z and ran a very broad route tree at Purdue… Doesn’t have a particularly good release. Rarely faced press coverage that forced him to expand on this ability… Works the sideline very well… Has good, strong hands. Good form. Looks the football in… Catches well through contact and in traffic, especially when working back toward the ball… Bell offers an average deep threat ability – doesn’t appear able to win consistently in man coverage but will thrive against zone schemes. Bell flashes some excellent run after the catch ability with his excellent field vision… Not a strong run blocker by any means. Doesn’t often position well to make the block – rarely ever gets hands on a defender.
