Myjai Sanders Scouting Report

Excellent speed. Ridiculously fast. Very solid lateral quickness. Shows good body control throughout his film. Crazy first step twitchiness. Incredible first step. Almost uncontainable. Ridiculously explosive. Average upper body. Not particularly effective on a slant/stunt, tends to lose his leverage. Doesn’t have the size to really be much of a power rusher.

Very solid bend off the edge on his speed rush. Great hand swipe. Has a good stiff arm that he uses to generate a power rush well. Doesn’t show a plan once he’s knocked off his first move. Shows decent hand placement. Wraps up the ball carrier, but not a particularly strong tackler. Struggles to control the runner. Doesn’t always go to his wrap up technique and will instead try to knock-over the ball carrier.

Not particularly strong as a contain defender. Pursuit angles leave some room for improvement. Has a tendency to over-pursue and miss the play all together. Want to see Sanders have a little bit more discipline to the snap count. Struggles to maintain his intensity throughout the game.

What we want to see from Myjai Sanders in Mobile

• One of the biggest issues I can see from Myjai Sanders game is that when he is stopped, he doesn’t have a plan or much of an idea on how to continue his rep and try to get in the backfield. Most of the time, you will see Sanders check out. We want to see Sanders come into Mobile with more of a plan formed.
• One thing to watch through practice will be on how much effort Sanders plays with. You’ll see him lose some intensity through the late second quarter and into the second half, especially when things aren’t going well.

Pre-Senior Bowl projection

There’s no doubt that Myjai Sanders is a very talented defender and has the tools to play in the league for a long time. We project him best fitting as a 3-4 RUSH EDGE, but he certainly has the capability to put his hand in the dirt and play in a 4-3 front. In reality, Sanders could be a mismatch piece on just about any defense in the NFL.

We like him as a solid first-round projection. He can play on day one and certainly start in the NFL, although it may be in his best interest to start in a rotational front. His ceiling is a multiple pro-bowl defender and I think teams will be more than willing to take that shot.
