Dontario Drummond Scouting Report
Very good speed. Should run in the 4.45-4.49 range. I don’t see Drummond changing direction too much. His game is more of a “Beat you with speed to the spot” style. Body control is good. Acceleration is solid. Such an explosive athlete.
Has some good footwork to really get into some of his routes. Ran an excellent route-tree at Ole Miss. Good hands. Shows a decent catch radius. Hands are fairly consistent. Drummond is a suitable deep threat receiver, though more of his effectiveness will be underneath. Struggles to locate the ball if it’s off target down field.
Incredible receiver running after the catch. Strong, running back type body. Very smart to find space in zone coverage, and has the ability to move up in the pocket. Has great contact balance, like a running back. Very strong after the catch. Offers some strength on the perimeter as a run blocker.
What we want to see from Dontario Drummond in Mobile
- Separation will be the biggest thing that we want to see from Dontario Drummond. As of now, he’s viewed more as an after the catch receiver that has to be somewhat schemed into space. If he can consistently beat cornerbacks across the field, he’s going to really boost his value.
Pre-Senior Bowl projection
Dontario Drummond best projects as a #3 receiver at the next level, and could potentially impact immediately on a weak team. However, overall Drummond will be viewed as a one or two year project. He still has some work to do to refine his route running craft. If he can overcome that, then he will bolster his value in the league.
Right now, we see Drummond as a fourth/fifth-round prospect. We think he could potentially work into a slot role very well in an offense by next year.
