Abraham Lucas Scouting Report
Speed is average for the position. Moves well for his size. Good lateral quickness. Handles speed rushes well. Very stout lower body, uses it well in both pass protection and run blocking. Anchor is good, but his base will get too wide at times and he will lose power.
Recovery is average. Really takes him too much time to recover when he’s caught by surprise and out of his rhythm. Flashes some extraordinary hand placement. Strong hands. Holds the defender well in his block. Strong fleury of attacks. Attempts to keep the defender off balance. Solid pass protector. Very capable off setting and engaging well.
Handles the inside move with little difficulty. Fairly consistent. Good run blocker, gets decent push. Flashes the ability to work into the second level very effectively, but not as consistent as you’d like to see. Does an outstanding job of recognizing what the defense is running against him.
What we want to see from Abraham Lucas in Mobile
- How will Abraham Lucas look to recover in 1v1’s when he’s starting to get beat? One of the issues with his recovery is that his base will start to widen and get to the point where he looks uncomfortably wide while chopping his steps. He loses a lot of power trying to recover. We’d like to see if he’s cleaned that up before the game.
Pre-Senior Bowl projection
Abraham Lucas has all of the tools and traits of a long-term successful right tackle in the NFL. He’s capable as both a run and pass blocker, flashes the ability to impact the play on multiple levels, and is a smart, heady player.
We like Lucas as a first/second-round projection. He’s a borderline day one starter for almost any system and should be well regarded across the entire league.
