Devonte Wyatt Scouting Report

Decent athleticism, can pursue the play briefly in the backfield. Moves very well for a man of his size. Flashes very strong lateral quickness. Very strong upper body. Excellent arms and shoulder strength. Doesn’t have the lower body drive that you would expect to see.

First step is very average. Consistency isn’t there. When flashing, his first step is ridiculously good. Flashes strong explosive abilities, but flashes are few and far between. Didn’t take double teams very often just for the fact that Wyatt was often on the field at the same time as Jordan Davis. Has the ability to split double teams when needed. Doesn’t show much balance once he gets through them.

Good hands, works well to attack the gap and uses his hand technique to ward off the blockers. Just needs to wrap up better. Struggles to secure the tackle consistently. Doesn’t collapse on the run gaps as well as he should. Pursuit angles as a whole are poor. Offers some pass rushing ability, especially in 1v1 situations against interior linemen. Strong bend and good speed to power transition.

What we want to see from Devonte Wyatt in Mobile

• Consistency. Devonte Wyatt flashes so many great traits on plays but struggles to put it all together. The first step, the hand usage, and the explosion are all so inconsistent. We want to see Wyatt start to put it all together and boost his draft stock in Mobile.
• When going into 1v1’s against the offensive line, we really want to see Wyatt show all of those positive traits that we saw on tape. Wyatt flashed the ability to be dominant while using strength, heavy hands, and explosion to win in-game reps. We want to see that against everyone that the Senior Bowl has to offer.

Pre-Senior Bowl projection

Devonte Wyatt best projects as a 3-tech defender in a rotational 4-man front. We don’t think that he has the energy to play most downs throughout a game due to the lack of reps we saw him take at Georgia. That being said, he can potentially be an immediate, low impact player. We don’t see a great ceiling for Wyatt simply because of his rotational role.

We project Wyatt as a fourth/fifth-round prospect. We think he should come off the board early in day three and fit into a rotational role somewhere in the league.
