Brock Purdy Scouting Report
Arm strength is not great. Struggles to drive the ball where he needs to. Underthrows the deep ball a little too often for my liking. Very quick and compact release. Box accurate quarterback. Struggles to throw with accuracy consistently. Deep ball accuracy is especially suspect. Fairly accurate short range. Placement is not great.
Struggles to consistently put the ball in front of the receiver on in-breaking routes. Doesn’t position as well in the pocket. I love the natural feel Purdy has for the pocket. Works through traffic well and buys time getting to the soft spots. Does struggle to make defenders miss at times. Very quick feet. Moves well in every direction.
Good mobility outside of the pocket. Throws well off-platform. Capable runner downfield, better than average. Wasn’t often used with Improvability is there, better than average. See’s the field well and keeps all options open.
What we want to see from Brock Purdy in Las Vegas
- Accuracy has to be just a little bit better. So many times, Brock Purdy puts a ball a little bit behind a receiver or just misses on balls that he shouldn’t. We’d like to see him start to clean that up in Las Vegas.
Pre-Shrine Bowl projection
Brock Purdy is an intriguing projection for the simple fact that he’s a project who won’t likely ever be a consistent starter at the NFL level. His arm talent is somewhat limited, his deep ball ability hasn’t really ever been there, limiting Purdy to just west coast-style schemes. He could potentially be a capable backup, but it’s going to take some work to get there.
We project Brock Purdy potentially being selected in the seventh round, but most likely as a PFA after the draft. He’s a major development project in the right offense with limited upside, perhaps as a backup quarterback at best.
