Quay Holmes Scouting Report

Average speed at the next level. James Robinson-type runner. Changes direction well in small directional amounts. Not great when having to change in large amounts. Shows some subtle nifty moves to make defenders miss, especially in the open field. Won’t pull off any drastic moves. Average run power. Doesn’t show anything particularly special.

Average acceleration. Has to take a couple steps to get to speed. Lacks the explosion seen in most NFL running backs. Average field vision. Doesn’t see the field as well as you’d like him to. Very decent contact balance between the tackles. Ball security might be an issue for Holmes. Very difficult to bring down in the open field. Absorbs contact very well.

Capable receiver out of the backfield. Doesn’t have natural hands. Doesn’t consistently create good catch angles to the ball. Will struggle tremendously to make catches through contact because of his unnatural receiving techniques. Ran a decently advanced route tree at East Tennessee State. Mostly utilized as a checkdown. Capable pass protector.

What we want to see from Quay Holmes in Orlando

  • Quay Holmes as a receiver is not something that seems to be a strength. His hands and eye coordination could be the issue, but mostly it looks like his catch angles are bad. We want to see Holmes show some improved receiving ability to improve his value.

Pre-Hula Bowl projection

Quay Holmes best projects as a rotational back at the next level who brings a more power based run style to the game. He’s capable as a receiver and a between the tackles runner.

Holmes projects best as a priority free agent at the next level. He’s just missing that extra step to stand out above the rest of the class and there aren’t many positions in the league for a player of his skill set.
