Matt Corral scouting report

Corral has a good, NFL-level arm. Shows good velocity and has a very live arm. Really showed out in 2021 with a cannon. Flashes some excellent touch ability. Release is fluid and compact. Very nice action. Swift.

A bit more of a box accurate quarterback. Especially when going deep, Corral isn’t consistently on target. Routinely underthrows passes for his receivers who have a step or two on defenders. Tends to be a good bit behind his receivers on crossing routes. Want to see him put the ball in front of them, tends to put it right on them. Still a little short on his deep shots at times as well. Works the pocket extremely well. Uses every bit of space that he has. Maneuvers extremely well and has a natural feel for making defenders miss to get to space. Footwork will sometimes freeze in the pocket. Throws well on the bootleg and while moving/off platform.

Excellent athlete in his own right. Corral offers some serious versatility as a downfield runner. Surprising speed. Very tough, gritty kid. Flashes some impressive improvability. Does an outstanding job using his eyes to move defenders away from where he wants to throw the football. Works through progressions and gives his guys time to evaluate the route. Uses his eyes very well, doesn’t look to his checkdown until the last minute. He’s still figuring that part of his game. Ole Miss prefers using sideline checks.

Pre-Combine projection

Matt Corral is a modern dropback style of quarterback who is more than capable as an athlete. At Ole Miss, head coach Lane Kiffin often used him as a designed runner which may have resulted in his sobering injury against Baylor. Still, his arm talent and ability to run the football makes him a solid, high-upside prospect in an RPO-centric spread offense.

We like Corral as a first round selection in this class, although we think he will grade out overall closer to a second/third round pick. In the right system, Corral can flourish into what we think will be a top-20 quarterback in the league. At worst, he will be a capable backup in a spread system.
