George Karlaftis scouting report

Very fast for the position. Has an excellent speed rush. Not fast enough to track down mobile quarterbacks. Lateral quickness is good but not great. Very impressive body control. Has an excellent variety of moves.

Excellent first step. Very, very explosive athlete. Excellent stiff arm. Continually wins double team match-ups and bullies his way into the backfield. Does have the strength and physicality to be a brute. Among the stronger players in the class. Excellent balance. Very well coordinated individual. Great bend around the edge. Very impressed with his ability. Gets under the blocker so quickly and effectively.

Uses his hands very well and in a multitude of ways. Has a nasty swipe. Really good rip move. Excellent hand and arm strength. Fairly effective finesse player. Decent tackler. Does struggle to corral ball carriers at times when playing as a run defender. Pursuit angles could be better, especially his timing working off of a block. Motor is excellent. Works well all through the play. Very consistent from snap to snap.

Pre-Combine projection

George Karlaftis is capable of fitting into both different base fronts defensively, playing as a RUSH EDGE in a 3-4 (or defensive end) and a defensive end in a 4-3. He’s more than capable both as a 5-tech and a 3-tech which should make him a valuable prospect on several different teams boards.

We think Karlaftis is a first-round prospect, and could go in the top 15 in this class. We like him a lot and think he’s a potential pro bowl player at the next level.
