Drake London scouting report

Good, not great, speed. Will not win 1v1 on the boundary with his speed. Two. sport athlete at USC, played football and basketball (guard). Doesn’t show a lot of body control. Very loose and uncoordinated at times. Doesn’t accelerate very well. Not particularly explosive.

Not particularly crisp through his routes. Rounds off the top of his breaks. Played almost exclusively out of the slot before settling into a larger boundary role in 2021. Good at feeling out the soft spots in zone and settling down in his route. Gets his positioning in a variety of ways. Very impressive. Doesn’t show to much versatility with his release. Flashes potential to use the sideline effectively, most of the time just got one foot inbounds.

Long arms gives him a special catch radius. Generally a very consistent receiver. Concentration drops are an issue with London at times. Struggles to catch through contact. Flashes the ability to do so from time to time, so there is upside here. Dangerous player after the catch simply because of his size and physicality. Breaks a lot of tackles in the open field. Ball security might be an issue with him. Very capable run blocker. Has the ability to be utilized well in that role on the boundary.

Pre-Combine projection

Drake London has some versatility to his game potentially at the next level. As an instant impact player, London offers some excellent ability as a big slot, much of the same role that Chase Claypool played in his rookie season at Pittsburgh in 2020. The deal with London, however, is that teams see the potential he can bring to the boundary and will hope to develop his route-running ability to get him out there.

We think London should go somewhere in the first/second-round range. His big play and run after catch ability is undeniable. With his upside, he should be someone very highly valued in this class.
