Kyren Williams scouting report
Good speed. Certainly fast – but not game changing. Will be more than suitable. Changes direction extremely well. Shows good variety to his jukes and moves while picking his way through traffic – very natural. Excellent body control. Works through stuff well. Plays much bigger than he is. Has a nasty stiff arm. Accelerates almost instantly. Very explosive athlete.
Has the ability to hammer into contact with some power. Breaks tackles with ease. Hits the hole with great intensity. Reads blocks well. Works with his blockers very well. Good contact balance at the second level, can be a nuisance to track down. Not a natural receiver, but is capable of working out of the backfield. Has some surprising power to his pass protection sets. Can buy his QB a moment. Typically quick to the spot, but sometimes doesn’t get there in time to help.
Kyren Williams projects best as a rotational running back who should be a tremendous help in a spread-style scheme. We like his ability to maneuver through space and his lack of real power ability will prevent him from making more than a minimal impact almost anywhere else.
Williams best projects as a fourth/fifth-round running back with his lack of real speed and pass protection ability. His field vision Is excellent and he offers some value in the passing game as a receiver, but overall he’s a mid-tier rotational running back at best. Williams falls behind several of the running backs in this class.
