Liam Shanahan Scouting Report

Average speed for the position. Doesn’t show great lateral quickness. Will struggle with his snap in the red zone. Does work well to get the snap off and then work into his block. Stays low after the snap. Could be faster to set up for run blocking. Solid lower body. Very explosive athlete. Not a brute until he gets a head full of steam moving downhill. A little bit stiff at times. Doesn’t offer a lot of bend before he starts surrendering ground.

Decent recovery. Finds a second win when he can get his legs involved. Great hand placement. Forces defenders to work against him with power. Decent pass protector. Forces defenders to beat him with power, but doesn’t have the strength to counter that. Very strong hand technique, does a good job locking the defender into his block, he just doesn’t have the strength to hold up well against the block. Very strong run blocker. Gets low and excellent push off the snap. Very intense when he wants to be.

Pre-Combine projection

We really like Liam Shanahan here at NFL Sapient, and have had him higher ranked than most publications for quite some time. He’s a balanced center who really needs to add a little more bulk to his frame but offers some solid upside in just about any offense.

Shanahan looks like potentially a fourth/fifth round prospect in the upcoming class, someone that you hope to see bulk up, add a little more strength, and become a serviceable starter in his second or third year. He has the upside, the NFL is keyed in to it.
