EJ Perry Scouting Report

Boston College transfer EJ Perry is a unique QB prospect. Coming into Brown and playing for his uncle, Perry made an instant impact by setting the Ivy League record for total yards in a single season with 3,678 yards. Perry has incredible upside with crazy athleticism. He has to ability to make plays when needed and extending plays is one of his strong suits. A 4.5 40 time leaves no doubt that defenses will have to account for his running ability as well.

Pros/Strengths: EJ Perry’s pocket awareness and athleticism makes him dangerous. His progression is very smooth. Perry’s ability to extend plays as well as being accurate in the quick game make him a versatile and unique prospect, giving him a potential edge over other QBs. Scouts will love his competitiveness and willingness to never give up on a play.

Cons/Weaknesses: Perry’s toughness can often back fire on him as he tends to take unnecessary hits and questioning throws. Teams want a QB that is tough and aggressive, but smart while doing it. In certain situations, Perry needs to be smarter when running the ball and taking shots down the field. Know the down, score, and whether or not it is truly worth the risk to throw a ball into double coverage or lower a shoulder on a defender.

Pre-Combine Projection

Expect EJ Perry to run one of the highest 40 times in this class. Scouts will love his accuracy in the short-middle pass game, but the biggest question mark is his consistency with the deep ball. Perry has to consistently deliver great touch on balls 35-40+ yards in order to jump higher on the draft board.

Player Comparison: Zach Wilson, New York Jets QB (Minus Zach’s arm strength)
